February 13, 2009

Hi again - I can hardly believe half term has rolled around already. Doesn't time fly! Charlie's been back at school since Wednesday, and seems to be on pretty good form now, albeit still with a stuffy nose and a bit of a cough. (School dinners are still going down a storm - I'm still amazed at the transformation in his attitude to food. It really is fab!)
He came marching out of school today with a really sweet Valentine card for me - that's one to file away to embarrass him with when he's 15!
He's been really happy this evening playing with his numerous new (secondhand!) Batman baddies - someone was selling a job lot on ebay, and Chas decided to spend some of his Christmas money on them. So this evening our lounge has been filled with battles between the Joker, Mr Freeze, the Penguin and Killer Croc! Ah the joys of being the mother of boys! He's still got quite a bit of money left, so he's now trawling ebay for a Robin figure to help Batman out, and a Killer Moth too. (Only problem with searching for Killer Moth is that I have to wade through all the adverts from Rentokil for moth killer first!)
We've got a really busy half term ahead, with something to do every day. We're off to the cinema tomorrow (another cheapo kids' special!), then the next day Charlie has a birthday party to go to. Monday, weather permitting, he and I are off to the farm because Pete's working.
Tuesday and Wednesday, Pete's off (work permitting!) so we're heading to Techniquest - a local hands-on science museum, which has got a big dinosaur exhibit on at the moment. We're also hoping to get to the national swimming pool - an enormous new leisure complex, with an olympic-sized pool on one side, and a leisure pool with big slides and lots of other fun things on the other side. (That's assuming Chas still fits in his wetsuit... he's growing like a weed at the moment.)
Then on Thursday, Charlie's off for another sleepover at Nanny and Grandpa's house again. He can't wait and is counting the days. He's itching to use his Batman pull-along bag that they bought him (nominally for when he goes into hospital next, but it's coming in handy now!) and is trying to work out how many of his Batman figures will fit into it. (Who needs clothes?)
Pete and I will probably go for something to eat... or go to the cinema... or something... on the night he's away. We're struggling to remember what we did in our 'pre-Charlie' life! (Does anyone else find themselves addressing their spouse as 'Daddy' or 'Mummy' and spelling things out that you don't want little ears to hear - even when the kids aren't there?!)
Then on the Saturday after he gets back, he's got yet another birthday party - a pirate party this time - so I'll have to dig out the costume he had for his last day at playschool!
Somewhere in between that lot, we've got to get his homework done, read all his reading books, make a chocolate snowman (we bought it to make at Christmas and forgot about it until we were emptying the cupboard last week!), go on a bike ride and hopefully get out into the garden to hack a few bushes back.
Life is busy and full - but that's just the way we like it. Back soon - will try to get a few new pics!

I wanted to stop by and say that I found your blog via MckMama's. I'm sorry to hear about Will, and thrilled to hear about Charlie. It sounds like things are moving right along.
I have a special place in my heart for HLHS babies. My little brother was born with HLHS in 1981 and passed away 3 days later. My cousin was born in 2002 with HLHS and has had all three surgeries (w/ Dr. Bove) and is thriving.
I look forward to following your blog.
