March 4, 2009

This is just a quick post, with a bit of difficult news. You may remember that Charlie's Grandpa - my dad - had a malignant melanoma removed from his back last summer. He's had a number of three-monthly check-ups, and all has been looking good.
However, he found a new lump under his arm a fortnight ago.
He had a biopsy last week, and received the results today. It's not particularly good news.
The cancer has spread to the lymph glands under his arm.
He will be having a CT scan in a week or so to see if there is any spread anywhere else, then a week or so later will be having surgery to remove the affected lymph glands.
If the CT scan shows up any other metastases, he'll be referred onto the oncology department for further treatment.
This is all we know at the moment, and it's a bit of a bombshell to say the least.
While we knew a recurrence was possible, we always hoped that it wouldn't happen.
I know my mum and dad would be grateful for your thoughts and prayers over the next few weeks.
