July 13, 2009

Hello everyone. Not much going on here - just thought I'd write a quick post before I go to bed. Charlie's on top form, and is enjoying his last week in Reception. He told me this morning as we were walking across the car park that today was his 'last ever Monday' in Reception. I imagine he'll be reminding me that tomorrow is his last ever Tuesday too!
We're still waiting to find out whose class he will be in next year - I guess I'll need to go in and brief his new teacher once we know. We're also waiting to receive his first paper school report in the next few days. That'll be another big milestone to file away in his memory box!
Charlie's friend Sam came round with his little brother Ben after school today to check how the fish he and Charlie won at the school fete were getting on. Fortunately they survived the weekend and are looking pretty perky.
I had to go to the dentist today to get a couple of fillings fixed. My dentist and her nurse now think I'm extremely brave because I told her not to bother with the local anaesthetic. I generally tend not to have it unless I'm going in with a toothache already, because nine times out of ten it doesn't hurt if you're just having a filling replaced and I'd rather avoid having a numb face for the rest of the day if at all possible. (And anyway, after having two babies, what's a bit of dental drilling?) Anyway, that bit went fine, but having got home this evening, I think I'm going to have to go back to again because there's a jagged bit sticking out between two of my back teeth which keeps cutting my tongue, so I'll need her to smooth it off for me. It's particularly annoying, because I thought I was done with the dentist for the next six months!
But enough of my dental dilemmas.
Dad is doing ok - yesterday wasn't such a good day... he was in quite a bit of pain, but with a bit more medication juggling he felt much better today, and was able to go out in the back garden with his zimmer frame to talk with my brother and a builder about getting some of the garden slabbed.
Assuming he's feeling ok again tomorrow, I'm going to take him and Mum back to the mall again. They both enjoyed the break last week, and Dad was a dab hand with the electric buggy I hired for him! I've hired another one for tomorrow, so he'll be zipping around independently again.
Pete's off to Halifax first thing tomorow morning (yes, 4.30am again), so it's just Charlie and me for the next couple of days. I'm really looking forward to Thursday though, when Pete and I are off to the cinema together - we might even have time to grab a bite of lunch afterwards!
I think that's it for now, so I'll leave you with a little series of pictures Charlie took of himself this evening on our new webcam - the quality's not brill because it was a bit dark, but he had lots of fun. Just you wait until he works out how to start the webcam video recording!

'Right, so I need to smile cheesily, and push this button here...'

'Hmmmm. Maybe not. Let's try the chilled-out, relaxed pose....'

'Nope - I give in... cheeky it is!'

Hi Ali, just stopping by to say Hello! Very cute pictures of Charlie again! It is scary how fast their milestones whizz by - I worry sometimes I'm not 'sucking in' every last bit of it all, and spend too much time being stressed or telling people off! Have a good week anyway -
